Gedenkstätte für die in der Shoah ermordeten Juden Österreichs / Memorial to the austrian jews who were murdered in the Shoah

The Society for the Memorial has committed itself to maintaining the largest area of the Schmerlingplatz as park grounds for the general public. The Memorial barely requires 30% of the surface.

With its own landscaping, the Memorial will enrich the entire Park. Inside the Memorial, a “Green Island” is planned, on which many new trees will be planted. The green outlook of the entire park is thereby enhanced, since the trees will be visible from the outside. To further integrate the Memorial in its park setting, the Walls of Names will be surrounded on the outside by a “Green Curtain” of trees and shrubs. All of the large, older trees in the park will be carefully protected and preserved.

The landscaping of the remaining park area will also be renewed. Visitors of the park will be able, as they have previously, rest comfortably on benches or on the grass, enjoy their lunch and go for walks under the green trees.

A beautifully enhanced park and an impressive, well integrated Memorial are an objective that will be easily attainable on the Schmerlingplatz.
