Gedenkstätte für die in der Shoah ermordeten Juden Österreichs / Memorial to the austrian jews who were murdered in the Shoah

A PLACE OF REVERENCE

By surrounding the grounds of the Memorial and providing only one major entrance, the Walls of Names will create a Place of Reverence.

Descendants of those who were murdered and other family members who survived the Shoah should, without being disturbed, be able to search for the names of their relatives, to touch the letters with their hand, to say a prayer, to light a memorial candle.

For all Austrians, the Memorial should offer a quiet place in which they can remember the fate of their Jewish fellow citizens and honour their lives. It should also be a place where they will ask themselves the question, how it had been possible that Austrians, in overwhelming numbers, participated in the persecution and the mass murder of Jewish children, women and men.
