Gedenkstätte für die in der Shoah ermordeten Juden Österreichs / Memorial to the austrian jews who were murdered in the Shoah

AGREEMENT BY THE CITY OF VIENNA

Deputy Mayor of Vienna Maria Vassilakou gave her approval to the building of the Shoah Wall of Names Memorial in May 2011. In May 2012, after the Verein had considerably reduced the scope of the required surface, Deputy Mayor Maria Vassilakou gave her consent to the Schmerlingplatz building site.

In May 2013, the Mayor of Vienna Dr. Michael Häupl, received two high level delegates from the Association for the Memorial. Mayor Häupl gave the Shoah Wall of Names Memorial Project on the Schmerlingplatz, as illustrated in the two Visualizations, his fundamental approval. Mayor Häupl then charged City Councillor for Culture Dr. Andreas Mailath-Pokorny, to engage in purposeful conversations with the Secretary General of the Association, towards the actual implementation of the Memorial Project.

A Feasibility Study requested by the City of Vienna confirmed that all the significant aspects of the Project, such as structure, design, building site and financing plan, were convincingly ready for the implementation of the Wall of Names Memorial. The City, the Government and the Association should now confidently engage in the further steps required for the prompt implementation of the Project.

It is long overdue for the City of Vienna and for the Government of Austria to publicly confirm their support of the Shoah Walls of Names Memorial and declare their intent to have the Memorial completed for the official “Year of Memory 2018” !
